asuka palace site
The remains of the imperial court from the mid-7th century to the end of the 7th century. Archaeological surveys revealed identical palaces of 4 imperial periods. In Japan, the location of the palace had been moved every time the emperor changed, but from this period onwards, the palace was fixed in the same area. As a result, more advanced urban function was formed around Asuka. The site is unique because of the way the remains are layered up to 60cm underground.
The stone paved plaza and the ruins of the large well that have been restored today date back to the end of 7th century.
